House removals in Camden

Whole houses across the borough — Camden Town and Kentish Town terraces, Hampstead and Primrose Hill period stock, Bloomsbury townhouses and the family homes behind them.

Camden still has plenty of whole houses, and they cluster: terraces through Kentish Town, Camden Town and Gospel Oak, the large period stock up in Hampstead, Belsize Park and Primrose Hill, Bloomsbury townhouses, and family housing around Dartmouth Park and Tufnell Park.

What is included

  • Free survey — at the property or by video — before anything is priced
  • Floor and frame protection through the whole route, not just the front door
  • Wrapping for upholstery, mattresses and polished surfaces
  • Dismantle and rebuild of beds, wardrobes and tables that will pass a door
  • Room-labelled unloading so boxes land where they belong
  • Materials taken away when we leave

Volume is the thing people underestimate

A four-storey London terrace holds an extraordinary amount, and most of it is in the parts nobody thinks about — the basement, the vaults under the pavement, the loft, the cupboard on the half-landing and the garden store. These are slow to empty and they are always coming.

That is why we survey rather than estimating from bedrooms. A number produced without seeing the basement is a number that gets corrected on the day, and the correction only goes one way.

Period interiors

Original cornicing, stripped boards, tiled hallways and a balustrade that has been there longer than anyone in the street. Protection goes down first and the route is agreed before the first item moves — including which staircase carries what, because on a five-floor house that is a real decision.

The street outside

Terraces here rarely have off-street parking, and the wider streets in Hampstead and Primrose Hill are often permit-controlled rather than free. We check the bays, advise on whether a suspension is worth applying for, and plan the carry distance into the crew size.

Two days, sometimes

On the larger houses, with tight completion times at both ends, splitting the move is frequently better than compressing it. We will tell you that at survey rather than promising a single day and discovering otherwise at six in the evening.

House move questions

01 Which parts of Camden still have whole houses?

More than people assume. Terraces across Kentish Town, Camden Town and Gospel Oak, the larger period stock in Hampstead, Belsize Park and Primrose Hill, Bloomsbury townhouses, and family housing towards Dartmouth Park and Tufnell Park.

02 Are the big Hampstead houses harder?

Different, rather than harder. Access is usually better — drives, wider streets, occasionally a rear entrance. The volume is the issue: four or five floors including a basement and a loft, all of which are coming.

03 What about basements and vaults?

Routinely forgotten and routinely full. London period houses have storage under them that nobody has emptied in years, and it is slow work up a narrow stair. Mention it and the quote is the real one.

04 Do you protect period interiors?

Yes. Original cornicing, stair balustrades, tiled hallways and stripped floors are standard in this stock. Boards and padding go down before anything moves and the route through the house is agreed rather than improvised.

05 Can you split the move over two days?

On the larger houses it is frequently the sensible answer, particularly where completion times are tight at both ends. We will say so at survey rather than promising a single heroic day.
