Questions

What people ask, answered plainly

The questions we are actually asked in this borough, answered plainly. If yours is not here, send it with your enquiry.

01

Do you handle top-floor conversion flats?

It is most of what we do. Camden's Victorian and Georgian houses were split into flats without anyone consulting a removals crew, so the stairwell turns, the communal door is narrow and the landing is shared with neighbours. We measure the turn before quoting and, where a sofa genuinely will not go round it, we say so in advance rather than on the day.

02

What about mansion blocks?

Different problem entirely. Those usually have a service lift, a porter and a booking sheet — the constraint is the block's rules, not the physics. We ask which lift is the goods lift, whether it has to be booked, and whether there is a loading bay or you are on the street.

03

Can you park outside?

Almost nowhere in Camden without arranging it. Most of the borough is a controlled parking zone, several of the main roads are red routes with no stopping at all, and around the market and the canal there is nothing spare at any hour. We check the bays for your address and tell you whether a suspension is worth applying for.

04

Do you do single rooms and student moves?

Yes — a room, a studio, a storage unit emptied, or one heavy piece. Same crews and the same protection, just a smaller vehicle and a shorter day.

05

Can you store things between places?

Yes. Wrapped, listed on an inventory and racked indoors, collected as part of the same move. It comes up constantly here because short-let gaps and slow chains are the London norm.

06

How do you work out a price?

How much there is, the access at both ends, how much packing you want done, and how far it goes. In Camden the access line is a real one — a fourth-floor walk-up with a turn is genuinely more work than a ground-floor flat with a bay outside, and we would rather show that than bury it.

07

Does a survey cost anything?

No. In this borough it is also the only honest way to quote — a room count tells you nothing about the stairwell, the communal door, the lift booking or where the vehicle can legally stand.

08

Can you do a video survey?

Yes, and for flats it often works better than a visit. Walk us up the stairs on the camera, show us the communal door and the turn, then the rooms. We see exactly what the crew will face.

09

What if the lift is out on the day?

It happens, particularly in older blocks. If it is known in advance we crew for stairs from the start. If it fails on the morning we tell you what that changes before we carry on, rather than presenting it afterwards.

10

Do you need a parking permit or suspension?

Sometimes. Camden operates controlled parking across most of the borough and a bay suspension has to be applied for in advance — the council generally wants it from the occupier or with their details. We will tell you whether your street needs one and which part is yours to do.

11

Are the red routes a problem?

Yes, on Camden Road, Euston Road, part of Camden High Street and the other main arteries. No stopping means no loading, at all, at the times they apply. We work from the nearest legal point and shuttle, which is costed in the quote rather than sprung on you.

12

What about the market and canal streets?

They are the tightest addresses in the borough. Around Camden Lock and the Stables the streets are busy from mid-morning and effectively impassable at weekends, so those are early jobs on a weekday whenever the dates allow.

13

Are my things insured?

Goods in transit and storage cover are in place, with the usual conditions around owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value. Declare anything genuinely valuable at survey and we will confirm in writing what applies.

14

Do you move pianos?

Uprights routinely, with the correct board and straps. Grands are assessed first — and out of a third-floor conversion with a turned stairwell we would rather bring in a piano specialist than improvise.

15

Do you pack, or is that on me?

Either, or a split. The common arrangement is that you do the books, clothes and kitchen cupboards and we do the glass, the pictures, the lamps and anything awkward.

16

Do you move offices and studios?

Small commercial — offices around Bloomsbury and Kings Cross, studios and workshops around Kentish Town and Chalk Farm, consulting rooms, small shops. Out of hours usually makes most sense so trading stops for the least time.

17

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as you have a date, even a provisional one. Month-ends and Fridays go first, and anything needing a bay suspension or a lift booking wants more notice than the move itself.

18

Do you cover the rest of London?

We work outside the borough constantly, but our patch is Camden and North-Central London. For moves that are London-wide rather than Camden-shaped, our sister sites cover the whole city and may be the better fit.

19

Who handles the customs paperwork on a European move?

We do, built from the survey inventory. Since the UK left the EU a household move needs a proper packing list and the destination country's transfer-of-residence process, and each of the four differs.

Still not answered?

Put it in the notes on the quote form. Services covers what we do, coverage covers where, and European removals covers moves that leave the country.

Send the outline — both addresses, the floor at each end, and roughly how much there is. We come back with a written quote, not a phone number to chase.
