Flat removals in Camden

Conversion flats, walk-ups, warehouse conversions and new-build apartments across NW1, NW3, NW5 and WC1 — where the stairwell, the communal door and the parking decide the day.

Camden is a borough of flats, and almost none of them were built as flats. Georgian and Victorian houses split two, three or four ways, mansion blocks from the 1900s, warehouse conversions along the canal, ex-council stock with a shared stair core, and new-build apartments around Kings Cross. Each one fails in a different place.

What decides the day

  • The stairwell turn — how tight, how many, and whether anything long goes round it
  • The communal door and the landing, which are shared and must stay usable
  • Lift or no lift, and whether the lift is a goods lift or a passenger one
  • Where the vehicle can legally stand, and how far the carry is from there
  • Whether the building has rules — booking windows, porters, protective floor covering

The survey does the measuring

We look at the turn before we quote, and for flats a video survey often works better than a visit — walk us up the stairs on the camera, show us the communal door, then the rooms. It takes minutes and it is the difference between a crew that arrives ready and a crew that arrives and starts problem-solving in your hallway.

Where a piece genuinely will not go round the turn, we tell you before you book. Sometimes the answer is that it comes apart. Sometimes it is a different route. Occasionally it is that the sofa stays and you sell it — and it is better to know that in advance than at ten past eight on the morning.

Protecting shared space

Your neighbours did not agree to your move. Communal edges get protection, the front door is not left propped longer than the carry needs, and the stair is kept passable. It costs a few minutes and it is the difference between a move and a complaint to the managing agent.

Parking, honestly

Most of Camden is a controlled parking zone, several main roads are red routes with no stopping at all, and around the Lock there is nothing spare at any hour. We check the bays for your address, tell you whether a suspension is worth applying for, and where the vehicle cannot get close we shuttle — costed as extra hands in the quote rather than added afterwards.

Blocks with porters and service lifts are covered on mansion block moves; whole houses are on house removals; a single room is usually man and van.

Flat move questions

01 What makes a Camden flat move different?

Vertical distance and shared space. Most of these buildings were houses before they were flats, so the stairwell was never designed for a wardrobe, the communal door is narrow, and the landing outside your front door belongs to your neighbours as much as to you.

02 How do you get a sofa round the turn?

Measure it first, then decide. A lot of three-seaters come apart at the back or the feet; some do not, and then the answer is either a different route or a different item. What we will not do is force it and mark the communal wall on the way past.

03 Do you cover warehouse and canal-side conversions?

Regularly. Those tend to have generous internal space and terrible external access — a loading arrangement that assumes a small van, a gate with a code, and a towpath side that vehicles cannot reach at all.

04 What about new-build apartments?

Easiest buildings in the borough to move within and the fussiest to move into. There is usually a goods lift, a loading bay and a concierge, and usually a booking process with a fixed window. Tell us which and we will book around it.

05 Can you do it without blocking the neighbours?

That is the aim, and it is why we plan the route first. Protection goes on the communal edges and the front door is never left propped open longer than the carry needs.

Moving out of a Camden flat?

Send both addresses, the floor at each end and a note of the stairwell. A video survey takes minutes and settles it.
